How to Make Sure You Invest in a Great Treadmill

By Manuelle Fergus

When you have decided to invest in an expensive large item it is important to know exactly what you are looking for and to know the right kind of questions to ask. A treadmill for your home workout is a large item and you need to know you are getting something that works for you and is a good deal. Ranging in costs as high as seven to eight thousand dollars, nobody wants to pay out that money and get a treadmill that was not worth its cost.

Here I look at three things to know and ask before you make a purchase so that you end up with a treadmill that is worth its cost. When paying money like that it is not acceptable for something to need replacing after just two years of use. Even if it is going to be a high traffic item it should be able to handle that, as long as you have chosen wisely. Three things to check are:

- How often are you going to use it, who else is going to use it, what are you using it for and what is the weight of the users? A lot of questions all at once, but the facts are if you are a heavy set person you need to know your treadmill can handle your weight as often as you want to use it. When you run on a treadmill the impact is 12 times your weight, When you walk it is 4 times your weight. When you have those figures ready and you know whether it is for walking or running and how often you want to workout read the manufacturer's specifications. This tells you what each model can take on its frame, the running path and the shocks.

- What kind of speed will you want the treadmill to be going at on average? This will affect what kind of motor you need as obviously if you get one with a 2 horsepower motor it works twice as hard as a 4 horsepower one. How long will the workouts be and how often will you be doing them?

- Warranty is something to look out for as there can be a large difference between models even when you are paying out in the $8000 range. It is entirely possible to go shopping for a treadmill and see one model that is good for you at $2000 with a 5 year limited warranty, and then see another model that is good for you at $2500 with a 25 year unlimited warranty. Check for length as well as limits so you can get yourself the best deal for your money. - 30553
